DRONCIT TAPEWORMER FOR DOGS & CATS What is Droncit? Droncit is a very potent tapeworm remedy, which reliably destroys both the mature and immature stages of these worms in the intestine with a single treatment. Droncit also reaches and des­troys every tapeworm that lies hidden in the intestinal mucosa, including its head. Droncit (praziquantel) is used to treat tapeworms in dogs and cats. Droncit requires a prescription, and is sold per tablet. Praziquantel works by damaging the parasite's skin internally so the parasite disintegrates and is removed by the pet's immune system. Following exposure to praziquantel, the tapeworm loses its ability to resist digestion by the mammalian host. Because of this, whole tapeworms, including the scolex, are very rarely passed after administration of praziquantel. In many instances only disintegrated and partially digested pieces of tapeworms will be seen in the stool. The majority of tapeworms are digested and are not found in the feces. Cautions: Side effects, while rare, may include vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, or diarrhea in dogs and increased salivation in cats.
