February is Beat the Heat Month but not the kind of heat you’re thinking of!
Beat the Heat Month actually has nothing to do with the weather. Beat the Heat was created by Petsmart charities, humane societies, clinics, and shelters to provide low-cost spay and neuter services for your furry family members.
According to the ASPCA when you spay or neuter your pet, you can help control the pet homelessness crisis, which results in millions of healthy dogs and cats being euthanized in the United States each year simply because there aren’t enough homes to go around. There are also medical and behavioral benefits to spaying (female) and neutering (male) your pets.
- Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.
- Neutering can help prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
Spaying or neutering your furry pal is also highly cost-effective believe it or not! The cost of your pets spay/neuter surgery is far less than the cost of having and caring for a litter. Many clinics and humane societies partner up this month to offer pet owners better pricing on the spay or neuter of your beloved pet. Don’t let your pet or your pets litter become one of the many fur babies out there that end up in a shelter because someone just wanted a cute puppy until they realized they didn’t have time for them. Stand up for them and the many that don’t have homes. It takes only one to make a difference, we need to start somewhere and that somewhere could be you.
Take the time to think about and do some research on the benefits and how you can help “Beat the Heat”!
